Blueberry Muffin Cake
The Centipedes read "If you Give a Moose a Muffin..." during circle time and then wanted to make muffins for everyone for snack today. We headed out to Thriftway to get our supplies and then worked together to make some awesome blueberry muffin cake together.
They took turns working on their egg cracking skills, easier said than done.
They had a great time working together, taking turns and making a great snack together.
Don't forget the blueberries - the best for last.

Painting to Music
This morning we were having a great time enjoying the Mardi Gras CD that Max brought in so we carried it over into our circle and class times. We had fun with music and movement and combined them with our water color project, so we put on Max's favorite sound and got busy exploring with color.
Using droppers, they could squeeze colors out and see how they spread across the paper and mixed together. They had cotton balls to help soak up the colors and dot it and move it around their paper as they listened to the rhythm of the music. They also liked seeing how the cotton ball sucked up the pools of color on their paper.
Some of their comments:
Max - May song - look at me - I get it wet then dab it like this.
Olivia: It made pink.
Jackson: it made purple
Ezze: I need to make colors
Quinn: Look I made blue
Serena: I'm mixing them together.
Torry: I liked it.

Our New Friend, Ezze!
Please help welcome, Ezze, and her parents, Jessica and Sam, into our Tiny Tribe Family! Ezze is 3 1/2 years old and will be joining our Centipede class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Classroom Choices for the Beetles
For Beetle class time today the toddlers chose from four different activities; easel painting, stencils with markers, peg boards, and magnets.
Finn picks up different items with the magnet wands. We challenge his learning by asking him to question why some items (like the metal lids) only stick to the magnet wand but not each other.
Grace and John stack pegs in rows and also in towers. We expand their thinking by helping them notice and label the different colored pegs they are using. We help them count the number of pegs and introduce the concept of patterns.
When one of the easles was already being used, Layla and Grace decided to share one easel together while painting with watercolors. "We are sharing." said Grace. "We are painting same-same" said Layla.
Jenna is helping Grace hold the stencil and paper steady with one hand while holding her marker with the other. This is not an easy task for a two year old. She is developing hand-eye coordination, fine motor, and large motor skills all at the same time.

Baking Bread
During Circle time, the Centipedes read the book "Walter the Baker" by Eric Carle. They then headed over to trying making their own bread.
Using a visual bread recipe broken down into steps, they each added in the ingredients they needed.
They quietly sang the "Yeasties" song so the yeast would come up and explode to the surface of their water and honey to make their bread.
Next they added in the rest of their ingredients, whole wheat flour, salt, and oil, and worked their dough together.
Everyone could make it into whatever shape they wanted for baking.
We set out our dough to rise as we headed out to play outdoors.... check out how big it got!!!
Torry's is the circle shapes, Max has the long one, and Serena made the rounder shorter one.
Olivia made an O for her name, Jackson's just above her's slightly rectangular in shape, Ezze's is cylindric next to Jackson's and Shai's is to the right of Olivia's and below Ezze's.
Can you believe how big they got !!! Thanks bakers and our yeasty friends. :)
We will have some of our bread at snack time and then send the rest home to share with our families. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it!
Learning and Exploring with Music
Today they were very interested in exploring with the instruments this morning so we carried it over into our circle time. They explored different instruments, listening to the sounds to find out if they were the same or different and if they were louder our quieter.
Bonnie shared songs with them today incorporating music and counting which go hand and hand with each other. Thank you Bonnie!
Painting the House
In the yard this morning, they all got busy to work painting the playhouse together. Max said that he was painting the house purple, Serena was "painting" it black, and Olivia was making it brown. Finn, Eli, John and Grace we busy at work to making sure the whole house was done. What a fun way to use their imagination as they work together to get the job done.
Fun In The Sun
Eli enjoyed scooping and pouring sand and watching the wheels turn once the wheels filled up with sand.
The Beetles loved coloring with markers, crayons, and paint brushes on the fence.
Reid was practicing his fine motor skills while playing outside. While drawing on the fence he said, "G for Grace" and went on with all of the Beetle's first letters of their names!
Shairing and Creating Stories Together
In circle time today, we read and acted out the story Jump, Frog, Jump! Next they helped create a story of their own.
Once upon a time....
Jackson: There was a Yo Gabba Gabba! robot that was green.
Olivia: A horse came.
Max: They go and save the princess from a bad horsey.
Quinn: They take the princess back to her castle.
Serena: They all go to sleep up high.
Grace: The robot tells them it's time to wake up and they get out of their cots.
Torry: Another horse and a cowboy come by and the princess and robot ride off and they get married.
The End.
In class time, some chose to make pictures for our story, Jackson is drawing a picture of the green robot.
Another class time choice was working with the waffle blocks, people, and tracks. They deciding they wanted to make the castle from their story together.
Creating stories together helps develop many facets in their growth from listening skill to turn taking. They are learning to create a story of their own they that can enjoy, just as they love the stories they read. Helping to develop a through line with a beginning middle and end brings literacy home on a personal level. We provide ways to expand about the original telling of the story by providing opportunities for them to draw pictures or build 3-D representations of their story, helping to flesh out the words and their creative visions, connecting the words to symbols that represent them in ways that they create. They get to determine how it should look and express it to others.

Grace- We're are fixing it.
Reid- We need to fix it.
Grace- Yeah, we need to fix a lot of it. It's pokey, we can't touch it.
John- Fix it.
Reid- We're going to fix it all day. I'm going to come back after lunch.
Grace- We are going to make it all better.
Reid- Bob the Builder, yes we can, yes we can!
Grace- We need to fix the climber, come on Reid and John. Lets Go!
