Beetle and Centipedes Classtime Together

Nolan worked at the puzzle table for most of class time. He enjoyed taking the pieces out and putting them back in but he also liked talking about the dump trucks, shapes, and letters he was working with.

Saige practiced drawing at the easel. She spent some of her time there taking the marker caps off and putting them back on again. She also drew circles of all different colors on her paper.

Layla painted with watercolors. She explored adding different amounts of water to her paint to make her colors light or bright.

Grace and John drew in the dry erase workbooks; counting items, tracing numbers, and circling objects.

Luka made lines of colored pegs on her peg board; a row of green, a row of yellow, and a row of orange.

Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?

The felt story board is one of the kid's favorite circle time activities. This morning, by overwhelming request, we got out our felt board and read many of our favorite felt stories, songs, and finger plays.

Silas heard the boa constrictor hissing in his ear.

John heard the elephant trumpeting in his ear.

Myla heard the leopard snarling in her ear.

Ella heard the walrus bellowing in her ear.

Beetle Free Play

The Beetle's had a great time today during free play! They all got puppets out and danced around making fun stories with eachother.

Centipede Class Time

Today during class time we had many fun options to choose from. Ezze and Alena enjoyed playing with the gears!

During class time today, we had GAK! as an option. Of course that was their favorite part of class time! We also had dobbers, dry erase books, and opposite puzzles.


Here Dorothy is making a necklace with GAK, but it just keeps getting bigger and bigger!


Quinn decided to make gumballs for everyone!


Jackson told us "I'm making a space ship in a batman cave!"

Ezze enjoyed making art with the dobbers and told us what she was painting.

"I'm making stairs to get down to this corner. It goes all the way down...shwwooop! Like that! But just like this. This is a big fishy! I'm making the tail yellow."

Luka made a dobber painting for her mom! Quinn told us the story of her painting.

"An airplane taking off, right here it's the airplane! And right here it's the line it's making in the sky!"

Dorothy and Jackson had a good time doing the dry erase books. Jackson outlined a snake, and dorothy colored in planets!

Beetle's Free Play and Walk

Today the Beetle's joined the centipedes during circle time! They had fun singing the name game, and picking out their names on the dry erase board and especially enjoyed circling their names on the board. :)

What Do We Do At Thriftway?

Our daily neighborhood walks often include a trip through our neighborhood grocery store; Thriftway. We are welcomed there by all of the staff with smiles, waves, food samples, and stickers. A simple walk through the grocery store can be an adventure of sights, sounds, smells, and tastes for toddlers and preschoolers.


We always enjoy stopping at the seafood department to check out the crabs, lobster tails, clams, and other fish. Today we sampled a slice of bacon there- yum!

Today Finn noticed the mushrooms and called everyone over to check them out. There were lots of different colors, shapes, and sizes of mushrooms.

Here we are "sticking to wall" (well, most of us:) at the bank inside Thriftway. We use the "stick to the wall" technique whenever we want to the kiddos to wait for a little while. We stopped in the bank to deposit Jennifer's payroll check because she is out on maternity leave. Because they were so polite and quiet, the bank teller gave them each a lolly-pop.

We can never walk out the door of Thriftway without one of the kids asking to stop in the floral department. Besides the beautiful and fragrant flowers we smell there, they also love looking at huge mylar balloons in all kinds of fun shapes.

Making a Zoo for our Animals

With a little help and suggestion, the Centipedes set out to create a large zoo together. They talked about how big we needed to build each area and created fences for holding the animals. They talked about which animals should live together and what their area should have; water for swimming, a cave to sleep in, and food to eat.

Ella and Eli collected all of the big cats; the lion, cheetah, leopard, and tiger and created an area for them to live in. We moved all of our block fences together so the people could walk around and visit easily. Everyone added their own ideas to our play and worked together.

The Beetles joined in our zoo play too. Austin pretended to feed the pig some pizza and put the pig to bed. :)

Free Art Morning

The Centipedes and Beetles spent the morning together because we only had seven out of twelve of our normal Tuesday kids at school today. Unfortunately we've got some kids out with virus symptoms, ear infections, and pink eye. :( Tiss the season.... we hope everyone is feeling better soon.


We spent morning class time this morning exploring markers, crayons, and paint dobbers. The Beetles drew lines, dots, and circles while some of the Centipede's practiced writing letters.
