Optimum health produces happy children so we provide the very best quality food available. We serve whole grain bread products and a variety of fresh and frozen organic fruits and vegetables. We use rice milk in some recipes to accommodate intolerances to dairy. We use only natural sugars sparingly; like honey, maple syrup, and agave nectar.
Today we tried out a new recipe for Tuna Florentine with sweet peas, tuna, cheddar, and noodles. The kids were all hungry from an hour of outside play this morning and most were willing to try this new dish. We encourage, but never require children to eat new foods. By eating family style and modeling by example, children are more adventurous. By simply offering healthy food choices and not insisting that they eat a certain amount, we prevent mealtimes from being a battle.
A wide range of whole fruits and vegetables are served daily. The Centipede class chooses which foods and how much of each food to serve themselves. The Beetles are offered a small amount of each food to try and they choose how much to eat.
Cow's milk, rice milk, and water is served with breakfast and lunch. Water is also served to each child multiple times/day and by request. We do not serve juice because the real fruit is much more healthy and juice just fills kids up with excess sugar so they tend to eat less.
