Circle Time Sign Language

Teaching sign language to toddlers is a great way to help our pre-verbal and newly verbal Beetles communicate. It can be frustrating for toddlers to be unable to tell their teachers, parents, and peers how they feel.
Pumpkin Creature Collaging
The Centipedes got to express their fun creative side with their own mini Halloween pumpkins.
With some, glue, tissue, stickers, and googley eyes the created their own pumpkin creatures.
Anna Lee dressed hers with some yellow tissue paper
Lena got busy with some color and then wanted to make sure her pumpkin could see and that everyone would be able see hers sparkle with a ton of glitter! :) !
Myla was pleased as punch with her sparkly creature too.
Come check them out and bring them home and to add to your Halloween decor.
No teeth so we promise they won't bite.
Pumpkin Carving
How could we really celebrate Halloween with our a Jack-O-Lantern of our own?
The Centipedes had a great time coming up with ideas of how their Jack-O-Lantern should look,
from scrunched up faces, to gross noses, and pretty bows for its hair.
Everyone helped come up with the design and carve it out together.
Lena helped pull up the top and found all the wonderful seeds inside
Everyone took a turn picking out seeds, to touch, feel, and eventually eat! YUM! :)
Some found it slimey
It's amazing to see and talk about how a tiny seed like this grows into a such a large pumpkin.
The seed are ready for the oven now! We'll enjoy this healthy snack this afternoon.

Spooky Stickers and Sticky Glue
The beetles are ready for Halloween! Today they decorated pumpkins with spooky stickers and they added eyes, a nose and a mouth to give them a face. Chloe was really concentrated on what she was doing. She put the stickers and the face pieces on the perfect spot.
Blythe dove right in and put stickers on one side of her pumpkin and a face on the other side.
Zoe chose to only use stickers on her pumpkin. She really enjoyed looking at the pictures on the stickers and then sticking them on her pumpkin.
The beetles also worked on decorating the pumpkins that they got at Safeway last week.Wiley only wanted to use the green marker for his pumpkin. Katy put one sticker on her pumpkin and also preferred to only use one marker.
Ghost Prints and Jack-o-Lanterns to Decorate for Halloween
The Beetles explored how glue feels and works to stick their jack-o-lantern faces on their pumpkins.
Katy chose her pieces placed them on her pumpkin.
Zoe liked the triangles and the ovals too.
Katy had fun feeling the stickiness on her fingers
Zoe was not such a fan.
Next they moved on to making ghost prints, Katy was all on board but Zoe had had enough of the interesting textures for the day and wanted to pass.
A Little Bit of Goo + A Little Bit of Sparkle + Imagination = Great Halloween Fun
The Centipedes made Jack-O-Lanterns this year with a little twist.
The started off by rolling glue all over their wax paper and then laid out a pumpkin outline to get started. They glittered their pumpkins up a bit to give it some sparkle and then added eyes, noses, mouths, bows, freckles... what every they wanted to make their own special jack-o-lantern.
Once their faces were complete they added another layer of glue to begin 'coloring' in their pumpkins with some Fall leaves.
Kaya placed colorful leaves all over her pumpkin.
Ava carefully selected which leaves she wanted to use.
Anna Lee smoothed out each leaf to place just how she wanted on her pumpkin.
Nolan's finished up Leaf Jack-O-Lanterns in the sunlight :-)
They are finishing drying and will be ready to go home in a day or two.
The Toddlers Taste New Fruit
This morning Victoria sliced up some new fruits for the Beetles to try. She sliced up some pomegranate, star fruit, persimmons, and papaya and talked with the toddlers about how the fruit looked, smelled, felt, and tasted.
Zoe was cautious and observant at first but after watching Victoria and some of her friends taste the new foods, she tried some herself, and really liked the pomegranate and asked for more.
Grant seemed to really enjoy the tart and juicy texture of the star fruit and also enjoyed all of the other fruits.
Wiley slurped one tiny pomegranate seed and made a funny face as he tasted it. He chose not to eat another one.
Katy touched some of the new fruits with her hands and smelled them but chose to wait until morning snack to taste something she was more familiar with, like raisins and cereal. :)
