Create a slideshow design

During class time we had a few fun choices for the kids to choose from. One of the options was making a story book. Story telling allows the children to take advantage of their imagination and gives them the opportunity to tell as well as show their story to others :)

Layla made a story called "The Rainbook Story". She drew pictures of slides, swimming pools and rainbows. Her book was about swimming pools for her mother, herself and her friends!

Luka began to make a story about sharing toys! She drew pictures of her friends, and her favorite toys.

Reid chose to make fun shapes using the rubber bands and the peg board. This activity is great for dexterity and learning the different types of shapes they are able to make using the rubber bands. Reid made three rectangles and said "I made a door!"

Eli said "I made a house!" Eli experimented how far he could stretch the rubber band, while still maintaining the shape of a house. Eli proudly shows us his house. Great job, Eli!

Finn had a lot of fun with the dry erase boards today! He chose to use the blue dry erase marker while coloring the pages, and trucks!

Making Butterflies...

Eleanor and Layla worked on designing their beautiful butterflies with the dobber paints. Kara talked with them about symmetry and showed them how to make a design on one side, fold their paper, and create an identical design on the other side.

Finn and Eli worked on making symmetrical patterns for a little while and then continued decorating their butterflies using paint and pipe cleaners.

The Beetles also joined class time with the Centipedes! Nolan and Austin loved using the dobbers to decorate their own butterflies.

Myla and Lena chose to decorate their butterflies with the colors pink, purple and blue!

Jennifer shows Raya how to use the dobbers, and Raya had a fun time decorating her butterfly :)

All the Centipedes were so helpful today showing the Beetles the butterflies they decorated, and how to screw on the lids for the dobbers.

Monday Morning Classtime Choices

Morning class time is a vital and important time of the day for the kids at Tiny Tribe. After the bustle, noise, and commotion of free play and dance party, circle and class time are a welcome opportunity to quiet our bodies and our minds.

John and Finn worked in a small group and played a game of connect four.

Luka worked independently to finish a puzzle all by herself.

Saige flipped the cards of the memory game over to find the colored matches.

Lena got comfortable and drew with markers and chalk onto a large piece of paper taped to the floor.

Nolan and Layla joined Lena on the floor.

Ella enjoyed mixing paint colors and expressing herself at the easel.

The Love of Music and Movement

The love of music develops at a young age. We have heard about classical music helping the brain learn but what about the other benefits of the world of music? Children love to move their bodies and express what they hear in their own unique way through dance. The songs we sing to them peak their interest in the lyrical world expose them to language and new ideas. Introducing them to instruments fascinates and helps give them an opportunity to express themselves using this loved medium. Watch below as they enjoy expressing themselves with music and movement. This is a simple display of what we try to foster everyday and will continue to expand upon as they grow.

Come Meet Our Catepillars! :) !

The Beetles and Centipedes stayed together for circle time so we could all meet the caterpillars that came to join our classroom. We will get to watch them grow and build their cocoons to turn into butterflies. We read a little bit about a classroom like ours getting caterpillars and then decided to pretend to be caterpillars too. We will continue checking in on them and learn about their life cycle in the coming weeks.

Fun with Foam Paint :)

They had a great time exploring the properties and artistic possibilities of foam paint today during class time. Here's a few of their comments as took turns working with it.

What are you guys doing? - Finn & Reid: We're making houses.
Reid: Look at what I can do see mess it up and then do it again.
Finn: I'm making green.

Reid: Look you can use the towel to wipe it off like I did.
Reid: We share Finn.
Finn: I'm wiping off the board.
Reid: Then we need more colors, right?

They got more colors and painted a bit more together.

Ella was watching Layla and Grace and she said: I think it feels foamy.
Layla: Squishy and funny and squishy.
Grace: Gooey and slurpy.
Grace: It feels like a pony.

Layla: I want purple.
Grace: I want orange.
Grace: I want orange. This is yellow (colors very close).
Grace: Look Kara, it's a donkey.
Layla: A picture for my Mommy
