Ice Painting

During class time, the Beetles colored using ice paint. They all got pretty creative , using different techniques to decorate their paper. After they were done using a color, they passed it to their friends on the right, which after a while became pretty funny to them.

Finished work!

Raya had a lot of fun dobbing the ice and watching it splatter on her paper. She touched it and said "Cold....brr!"

Anna Lee enjoyed painting using her fingers. She rubbed her hands on the ice, and made dots with her hands.

Lena switched from dobbing, to spreading, then even trying to blow the little ice droplets onto her paper!

The Beetle girls talked about which color they were using and pointed out and laughed how it was on everyone's stomachs and faces!

Paper Chains

For our class time today, we made Christmas paper chains. During circle time, we counted how many days there were until Christmas. Since there's 11 days until Christmas, we thought it would be fun to make eleven circles on our paper chains. It was optional, and some of the Centipedes had more fun picking out colors and making patterns with their paper chains.

Finn's favorite part was picking out which color he was going to use next.

Layla added some blue to her chain.

Ella had so much fun making her chain she wanted to keep going!

Grace wanted to make sure her chain had enough glue.

Eli came up with his own method, weaving the paper through the circle, then gluing it shut :)

Old Friends and New Friends

Our friends, Jenn and Kate, have been bringing their waddler class to yoga on Wednesdays at 8 Limbs, too. It's been so much fun for Raya, Kaya, and Eva to spend time with their old teachers and friends, Sophie, Caden, and Jacob.

Laying on these colorful orange blankets and getting pulled around on the wood floor by one of the teachers has been a big hit. The girls ran right over to the blankets to get them down off the shelves because they remembered how much fun we had last week!

Another fun thing is pushing and climbing on these bolsters. Today we made some tunnels out of them and the kids crawled through until the soft pillows came crashing down on them, which they loved.

Visiting Our Friends at the Kenney Home

Some of our friends at the Kenney home are in wheel chairs or use walkers. Some of them have difficulty hearing us when we talk. Others can not see us but can only hear our laughter. A few don't remember us after each visit because they suffer from Alzheimer's or dementia. However, they ALL express joy while interacting with the toddlers at Tiny Tribe.

Interaction with older adults enhances our toddler's communication skills, promotes self-esteem, and fosters friendships across generations. Young people who are exposed to the elderly develop positive attitudes regarding a sense of purpose and community service.

Intergenerational programs afford older adults an opportunity to participate in a meaningful activity. This decreases loneliness, boredom, and depression while increasing self-esteem.

We love going to the Kenney Home and we are so grateful to have built a relationship with such an amazing retirement and nursing home community.

Special Stocking for a Special Someone

With Christmas marketing now starting the day after Halloween, it's not surprising that after two months of television commercials, store displays, and mail catalogs kids begin to focus on the "getting" part of the holiday season and often miss the "giving" part completely.

Over the next week, we will be talking a lot about gift giving. Some gifts can be cards or art projects that we can make for others but gifts can also be kind actions or words that we share with others.

We will go through our classroom toys & books and chose some to give away to other kids. We will also tell our friends and family members the things we enjoy about them by writing out thoughts and well wishes on cards and letters.

Today we made stockings and each preschooler decided who would be the recipient of their masterpiece. Stockings were made for moms and dads, grandparents, siblings, and friends.

The Centipedes Visit Hiawatha Open Gym

The weather outside was really chilly today so we decided to head to the open gym at Hiawatha so we could run around and be loud and crazy indoors.

New Building Set

Today we were surprised with a new building set! With everyone's help, we created a movie theater and had a slumber party under the ceiling we made with scarves.

Layla wanted to drape the blanket on the side, to cover one of the open spaces.

Ice Painting

Ava thought it would be much easier to take the frozen paint out of the cup and paint with a big chunk of ice. Luka used blue to create clouds all over her paper.

Aliza and Saige didn't mind the cold ice on their hands. They squeezed the ice out of the dixie cups and used their fingers to make designs on their paper. Saige used mostly red while Aliza chose to use all different colors to make a rainbow.

Here's a group shot of the Centipedes painting with ice. John made sure to paint his whole paper with many different colors. John had a lot of fun painting with ice, he decided to paint multiple pieces of paper! They explored different ways to paint with the ice, sliding it around, using their fingers to dip into it as they enjoyed watching it melt on to their paper.

Designing our own Snowmen

Myla was very proud of the snowman she created. She counted the circles before putting them on the paper and even saw the difference in the circle sizes. She told us the big circle needed to go on the bottom and the small circle was his head and should go on top!

Eleanor concentrated very hard while creating her snowman. Eleanor thought her snowman needed a scarf so she colored one in.

Grace decided to use two different size circles. She put her hat on the bottom of the paper and said, "it's too snowy outside and the wind blew it off."

Layla made two different kinds of snowmen. One with the hat is her Dad, Scott, and the other one is the daughter, Layla. Layla said she doesn't need a hat because she doesn't get cold while playing in the snow.

Austin enjoyed gluing the circles on the paper. He pointed to each one and said "big, small, small!"


Eli wanted his snowman to be really tall, like his dad! So he made the Snowman's head go over the paper.
