Multiple times each morning, a child climbs into one of our laps with a book or two in tow begging, "Can you read this book to me? Please?"
Children also love connecting stories to real-life experiences. This morning we read a book by Eric Carle titled, "Walter the Baker". In the story, Walter throws a piece of dough up into the air in frustration and it falls into a boiling hot pan of water. The shape that comes out is a pretzel shape and it's delicious. Walter invented the pretzel!
The preschoolers, and our kindergarten helpers (Layla and Finn) rolled and mashed and used their imaginations to create their very own pretzels of all different shapes and sizes.
There were many ideas about how to shape the pretzels. Some of them tried poking three holes into the dough with their fingers. Others tried rolling their dough into a snake and then twisting it into a pretzel shape.
The kids were excited to wake up from nap and eat their creations.... yum!
