Today during circle time, we talked a little about the upcoming election. You might be thinking that two and three year-olds couldn't possibly understand what an election is, but they actually do! Jena showed the preschoolers her ballot. The kids noticed that Jena can mark her choice of many different candidates for President of the United States. Each citizen who lives in our country, who is over the age of 18, gets to vote.
We read our classroom book about Barak Obama and talked about how he is already the President and he wants the people to vote for him again. But all of the people have a choice and some people are going to choose not to vote for him.
We voted too. We each raised our hand if we wanted small construction paper out during class time or large paper.
We counted the hands raised for each choice. The choice with the most votes won. Large construction paper it is!
Over the next week we will learn more about voting by making some classroom decisions using this method. Stay tuned....
