Preschool - Sequencing Skills/ Pre-Reading Skills

Some of our older preschoolers will be graduating from Tiny Tribe to head to pre-kindergarten classrooms in the Fall. They are ready for some more challenging work now and we will be separating them into smaller groups for more individualized attention.

Sequencing is the ability to put the events of a story in the order in which they occurred. Teaching sequencing to early learners is important because logical order of thinking is fundamental to reading and everyday life.

The Centipedes worked individually to place the cards in order. We are starting with just 3 cards for the beginning, middle, and end of the story and we will add more as the children are ready.

Recognizing sequences helps preschool students learn letters, sentence forms, story formats and counting. Using sequencing games in our preschool classroom can reinforce these skills to prepare them for kindergarten.

"First the girl picks out some beads and a string. Then she beads them all on to make and necklace. Then she finishes her necklaces and puts it on!"

"That girl is making a block tower. Then she puts on too many blocks and it falls over. Then it is all smashed up."
