One-year-olds are naturally curious and most are eager to touch and explore new materials, like moon sand. Today we opened up the sensory table and allowed them some time to explore this new medium.
Moon sand is finer than regular sand so it can be easily molded and holds it's shape temporarily. Zoe explored making little balls with it and then smashing them apart.
Grant really wanted to use his sense of taste to explore the moon sand. Typically, we try to conserve pacifier use for nap times and crabby times but they were great for keeping sand out of little mouths too. :)
With the help of a teacher, Wiley learned to cover a dinosaur with sand and then find it again. This may seem like a simple activity but it is supporting learning in object permanence as well as cause/ effect.
