During our class time we decided to bring out the foam and stacking blocks and let the kids have some fun using their imaginations. We also had foam shape puzzle boards as a choice for the kids to create animal shapes. Block play is beneficial for Preschoolers because it allows them to incorporate math and language skills into their play. Their language skills come into use when they describe what they're building and by talking with other kids about their creations. Math skills come into play by learning that it may take a certain number of blocks to reach a certain height. If they run out of long blocks, they can figure out how many short blocks it takes to become the same length as a long block.
Luka used the foam puzzle board to create a dinosaur. She wanted to make the dinosaur as colorful as possible :)
Eli built a tower using the foam magnetic blocks. After he finished his tower, he pointed to each block and named the color with a smile.
Nolan chose the stacking blocks to make a fire hose for his Fire Engine.
Lena helped Myla build a long rainbow using the stacking blocks. They counted out each color and told their friends that it was a special rainbow line.
Lena was proud of her work!
Finn was adding on to Nolans Fire Hose idea, by making a ladder for the Fire Engine.
