Preschoolers and toddlers are inherently drawn to the natural world. They are often mesmerized by the small living creatures that live in our backyard; like snails, worms, ants, and ladybugs. It is during early childhood when children’s experiences influence their future values and attitudes about life. Regular positive interactions within nature help children develop respect and a caring attitude for the environment. Children who are connected to nature learn to appreciate it as something to be loved and preserved, not as something to be controlled and dominated.
