Because our school is moving to a new address, we decided this month would be the perfect time for learning about where we live. Today we learned that each house has different numbers and words that tell the mail carrier where to bring the mail. We each received an envelope with our name and address written on it.
During class time, we got busy making cards and writing letters to put in our friend's envelopes. We will continue to work on these during the next week. When they are full we will seal them and mail them home.
On our morning walk we stopped at our neighborhood mailbox. We practiced opening and closing the slot for putting mail in and also noticed that the mail carrier will need a key to get in and get the mail out.
We noticed numbers everywhere.
Hey, look, more numbers!
I know those numbers.... 6, 5, 2, 7!
We noticed that as we walked down the city block, the numbers got higher or lower.
We looked up at the street signs and noticed numbers and letters up there too. We could see the "F" for Fauntleroy. We are planning a field trip to the post office later this month so we can get a sneak peak behind the scenes.
