Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?

Today during circle time, the Beetles enjoyed helping Roberta read the story "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?"  Using our felt board version of the story, each Beetle had the opportunity to help read the story by figuring out what animals they had, as well as adding it to the felt board.

Above is Kaya and Eva laughing while telling Roberta all of the animals that they have helped put up.

Eva: This here is a snake!  These animals all make sounds like this snake!
Kaya: Mine is pink [Flamingo]!

Here's Zoe laughing at the story, thinking that the sounds of the different animals are silly.  By having the kids help put the animals on the felt board, the Beetles became more engaged in the story.  While making the kids more engaged in which animal was coming next, having them participate in the story telling served more than one purpose.  The Beetles started to ask more questions about the animals, and began to answer the book's big question, "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, what do you hear?"
