Stamping, Collaging, and Developing Our Fine Motor Skills

What are fine motor skills and why are they important?

Fine motor skills involve the coordination of small muscles in the hand, arm, and body that enable us to control certain functions like writing, cutting, grasping small objects, buttoning, zipping, and dressing. Fine motor skills involve dexterity, coordination, and strength.

Squeezing a glue bottle while holding it in mid-air may seem easy to an adult, but stop and think about all of the strength, coordination, and dexterity that is required to make that simple act of squeezing glue happen.

The kids at Tiny Tribe are explosed to daily activities that help build fine motor skills; like stamping, beading, cutting, playdough, moon sand, bird seed, puzzles, tracing, lacing, and peg boards to name a few.

Through open-ended play with a variety of materials, children learn about pressure and grasp and become skilled at using their hands to take care of all kinds of necessary life tasks.
