Today we walked the short block to our local Zeeks Pizza for a tour. The manager, Dan, and the pizza chef, Jen, showed us all around the kitchen. After we explored the huge walk-in refrigerator, we watched Jenn press the balls of pizza dough through a large dough press.
It was exciting to watch Jenn toss the pizza dough high up into the air and then catch it. By doing this, she stretched the dough out even more so it would be the perfect size for our pizza. Next Jenn put toppings on our pizzas. Most of the preschoolers wanted cheese and sauce only but John did request pineapples for his. Finn and Grace wanted peperoni on theirs too.
We watched Dan slide the pizza into one of four large pizza ovens to cook it. He used a special stick to pop the pizza bubbles periodically as it cooked. When our cheese was melted and our dough was nice and brown, Dan took it out of the oven and cut it with a large blade.
We all sat down to enjoy our delicious pizza.
We learned some fun facts:
They make about 1000 pizzas each week at our local Zeeks.
Their most popular pizza has four different kinds of meat.
They put 50 peperoni on every large peperoni pie.
Grace says, "Thank you Zeek's pizza man for showing us your kitchen, giving us pizza, and dough to play with, and stickers."
